Bethany is a voluntary, parish-based, lay ministry aiming to help the bereaved and grieving in the Parish and wider community.
Bethany is taken from the name of the village where Jesus went to console Martha and Mary on the death of their brother Lazarus.
The members of Bethany have themselves been bereaved and have been trained to listen with compassion and understanding. They are kind and approachable men and women who can help and support you through the grieving process for as long as you need it.
Everyone grieves after a loss each in his or her own individual manner. Sometimes family and friends find it difficult to help or may be going through their own grieving process and not be able to help you at this time. Others are diffident or embarrassed. They want to help and support you, but don’t know how.
We in Bethany recognise that it is normal to feel anger, guilt, fear, depression and a whole range of emotions that may accompany the pain of loss.
We also know that feelings are better expressed in caring and safe surroundings to someone who understands. Then those feelings can be talked out, possibly cried over and hopefully put into some kind of perspective in order to help the healing process.
Your parish Bethany group is ready to respond to any request for help.
